the times leading as much as the vacation had been an actual roller coaster trip for Cyanogen fans. the day before today, Cyanogen Inc. unceremoniously pulled the plug on its strengthen for CyanogenOS in a brief submit declaring that “all services and Cyanogen-supported nightly builds will be discontinued” through the year’s finish.
In a post as of late titled “A Fork within the road,” the staff in the back of CyanogenMod recounted that the pre-holiday announcement effectively quantities to a “death blow” for their own undertaking.
“along with infrastructure being retired, we within the CM community have misplaced our voice in the future route of CM – the logo may be sold to a 3rd party entity as it used to be an asset that Kondik risked to start his industry and dream,” the team wrote in a post. “even if we were to regroup and rebuild our own infrastructure, continuing development of CM would imply to operate with the threat of sale of the logo looming over our heads.”
however while many in the community had been caught off-defend via the day past’s curt announcement, the CyanogenMod team has it appears been working hard on a plan B. word of Lineage began cropping up a number of weeks back, after Cyanogen Inc. unceremoniously separated severed ties with co-founder and @cyanogen Twitter deal with haver, Steve Kondik.
Now Lineage is reliable. In its submit, the CyanogenMod workforce insists that it’s more than only a rebranding effort. “This fork will return to the grassroots neighborhood effort that used to outline CM while maintaining the skilled high quality and reliability you’ve gotten come to expect more recently,” it writes.
For now, it’s available as supply code over on Github, but we’ll optimistically be seeing one thing more legit as team regroups and the new 12 months rolls around.
